BULGARIA

During my  journey by land of the Balkans from Istanbul, I got to visit the splendid Republic of Bulgaria, and especially its capital, Sofia who has been an area of human habitation since at least 7000 BCE. Many of the major monouments, museum and cultural institutions and of Bulgaria are concentrated in here.

- The Rain of LIght -

I am inside the The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the light is beautiful, it seems to rain from above. The high walls and massive columns supporting the large golden dome that I saw outside is 45 m high. This symbol of the city is a cross-domed basilica featuring an emphasized central dome. The temple has 12 bells. The interior is decorated with Italian marble in various colors, Brazilian onyx, alabaster, and other luxurious materials. The central dome has the Lord's Prayer inscribed around it, with thin gold letters.

- The Nymph -

Just opposite the famous the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the oldest and most authoritative theater in the country and one of the important landmarks of Sofia, is the City Garden. A beautiful garden adorned by a fountain with a famous statue of a nymph.

- St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral -

I arrived in Bulgaria very late, last night, coming by bus from Istanbul, and I forgot that yesterday there was the daylight saving time. So I'm out exploring Sofia at 7:00 am of a sunny Sunday. Walking through the gardens and magnificent avenues I arrive in front of the symbol of this city. The beautiful St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is the Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral of Sofia. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world.

Occupying an area of 3,170 square meters and can hold 10,000 people inside.

On Sunday morning the gardens of the city of Sofia are populated by many people, who leads walking the dog, who comes out with the kids, who plays chess and someone who improvises a small jazz concert.

- The Long Exposure -

A long exposure of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, in a very cold autumn evening. The sky is virtually oxen, but with an exposure of 30 or 40 seconds can capture some of the glare of light after sunset.
