I am standing in one of the crossroads of the city of Battambang, the streets are busy, but at some point the traffic increases dramatically, the school ended for the day, a sea of motorbikes and bicycles flood the streets.

- The School Bus -

Honestly I have tried to have the opportunity to take this photo from a couple of days. I was looking for an example of how a motorbike can be loaded with people. The best time turned out to be at 1pm when some scooters become the school buses to take home students,

Cambodia

The official name is the Kingdom of Cambodia and in Khmer as "ព្រះរាជាណាចក្រកម្ពុជា" (Preăh Réachéanachâk Kâmpŭchéa), often shortened to just Kampuchea that derives from the Sanskrit word Kambuja or "Golden Land" or "Land of Peace and Prosperity". A land of great history and traditions, with its immense stone temples in the jungle, and the royal golden palaces in the cities.

- Sunrise in Angkor -

Are 5:00 am, the sun has not yet risen, but the sky is an explosion of colors, the light hits the clouds that seem to catch fire. The black silhouette of the temple of Angkor Wat stands under this show of colors. Another day begins in the largest religious monument in the world.

- The Stone Face -

At the center of the city of Angkor Thom stands the magnificent Bayon, the temple of the smiling gods. It is as popular with visitors as Angkor Wat and masses of tourists are pushed through the huge structure with it's 54 towers containing over 200 large faces of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.

- The Bowels of Bayon -

The air inside the tunnels of the temple is cool compared to outside. Exploring the inner sections of the temple of Bayon is like being transported back in time, the old stones, become dark by the centuries seem to be hovering over one another. Strong daylight filters in the gaps between the stones above, creating game of light.

- Ta Prohm -

Ta Prohm is the modern name of the temple, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found. Trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors. UNESCO inscribed Ta Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992

- Prasat Bayon -

Arriving on a motorbike, the shape of the temple appear through trees and vegetation, the sun has just risen and the light is still golden. It is still early, the temple is almost deserted, the towers with smiling faces invested by the rays of the sun, set against a blue sky. The temple sits at the exact center of Angkor Thom.

- Bayon Faces -

Bayon is known for its huge stone faces of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, with one facing outward and keeping watch at each compass point. The curious smiling image, thought by many to be a portrait of Jayavarman himself. There are 51 smaller towers surrounding Bayon, each with four faces of its own.

- Cambodian Children -

During many of my travels around the world, I unfortunately saw how the lifestyle changes according to the site. I realized that being children and the definition of childhood changes. Traveling in countries still underdeveloped, I saw with my own eyes the dark side of childhood, children forced to work since very small, begging, stealing, and the list goes on and on.

In one of the bridges of the immense complex of Angkor Wat, a line of soldiers stone keeps an eye on the great mass of tourists that invade the area every day. The faces of stone have a hard and proud look..... but not all, at least one of them smiles to passersby.

- History vs Nature -

One of the icons of the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, one of the most beautiful temples throughout Cambodia, on the one hand for its extraordinary architecture and in the other to the fact that for decades the surrounding jungle is reclaiming its space . This place is almost magical, huge trees that over time have unhinged walls and moved enormous stones, some sections of the temple are now reduced to a pile of rubble by the extraordinary clinging roots. Many restoration and recovery have been made and many still in progress.

A constant struggle between the man who tries to preserve their history and nature that tries to wants his space.
