Are 6:30 pm during a trek in the deep jungle of the Tangkoko national park in northern Sulawesi ..... looking "UP" for nocturnal animals and insects on tree branches I almost stepped on this Tropidolaemus subannulatus, a dangerous snake that inhabits the jungles of Borneo and Sulawesi.

SULAWESI CRESTED BLACK MACAQUE are Critically Endangered and face high risk of extinction; populations have declined by over 80% in under 40 years due to ubiquitous threats of habitat loss and fragmentation, but also from the bushmeat trade. Monkey is considered a delicacy with the majority of hunting for ceremonial food rather than subsistence. These monkeys are an important flagship species.

These pink-bottomed, punk-haired monkeys are the most endangered of the seven macaque species that live on the island of Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) in Indonesia. The main threat to their survival is over-hunting for food – they are served up as a delicacy on special occasions such as weddings. The all too common problem of habitat loss to humans for farming and housing puts additional pressure on the macaque population.

Tarsiers are primates found only in the islands of Southeast Asia. They are arboreal and jump through the trees to catch their food, which is mainly insect based. The majority of Tarsier species are now endangered or threatened, and some are designated critically endangered. Threats include habitat destruction and fragmentation, hunting and agricultural pollutants.

- The tiny tiny Village -
I know I know, it might require a little imagination, and I also know that its 6 am and I'm still sleepy, and is 1 hour that I'm walking in the jungle ... but, as soon as I saw this trunk covered with small mushrooms, I immediately thought of fairy tails and legends of leprechauns or elves who live in nature in small villages hidden in the forest ... I should drink more coffee before starting the trek.
